Screen based interactive installation / web interactive art project
THE RED : a mute scream is an interactive moving image which contains of the video clips of twelve symptoms of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder and the man’s point of view about PMDD. The interactivity of this piece is based on the floating interface of video images which allows viewers to select the clips subjectively through the navigation.
In this piece, I specifically conceptualize the emotional symptom of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. Before I began with this concept, I was trying to focus on the psychological aspect of women: the symptoms or emotions that only women have. First, I started with the concept of menarche as it had been gradually developed as Premenstrual Syndrome. This development eventually ended up Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, which supercharged psychological aspects of Premenstrual Syndrome. Researchers, physicians and psychologists fall on various sides of the debate over premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
By developing interactive interfaces that engage the viewer’s physical and emotional connection: I want to give the viewer the choice of selections and attentions of the works. The visceral connection between the real and the virtual is essential interest in my work.
By refiguring the possibilities for interaction with still images and/or moving images, I question and explore the relationship between the participant and the work between the virtual and the real. By creating a sometimes simple yet complicated way of communicating between this interplay, I hope to engage the viewer emotionally and viscerally.
